THREE EMERGING FILIPINO ARTISTS LEAD SINGAPORE CONCERT

THREE emerging Filipino artists—a singer-composer, a boy band, and an acoustic princess—were chosen to lead one of the biggest Filipino independence day celebrations in the island state of Singapore this June.

The sentimental prince of Philippine music Myrus, foremost Filipino boy band 1:43, and acoustic artist Princess Velasco will be performing their latest hits, as well as covers of popular Original Pilipino Music (OPM), in a rare musical festival titled “Philippines: One World Concert 2012” on June 10 at The Coliseum of the posh Hard Rock Hotel in Resorts World, Singapore.

“Our three banner talents namely Myrus, 1:43 and Princess Velasco represent the next wave of global Filipino artists. Their songs showcase how comparable OPM is to the music of the world,” says Singaporean director Jaden Zanders of Jaz-E Entertainment, the concert organizer.

The concert aims to attract the three artists’ growing fan base in Singapore—including the OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) population—and in the rest of Southeast Asia.

“We expect a lot of Singaporeans to watch the show. We heard that there are even Malaysian and Indonesian fans that are flying here and buying tickets just to see them,” adds Zanders.

Gold Record singer-composer Myrus recently released his second all-original album titled “Wanted” under Viva Records featuring his radio and YouTube hit “Pusong Lito.” He is an Awit Awards nominee for Best New Male Recording Artist in 2010, an ASAP 24K Awardee in 2009, and the head of an OPM advocacy program called “Tunog Natin.”

Myrus’ latest single “Pusong Lito” has gained a great deal of following online; it also became No. 1 in many radio stations in Greater Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Lucena, Cagayan de Oro, and Cotabato. The song’s rising popularity was aided by its initial release in over 450 Mang Inasal stores, as part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Campaign.

The OPM pop heartthrobs of 1:43, composed of Anjo Resurreccion, Gold Aquino, Kim Nicolas, and Yuki Sakamoto, have delivered the biggest love song of the season with their radio and YouTube monster hit song “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo.” The song is also a part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Campaign and was composed by Myrus.

“Sa Isang Sulyap Mo,” one of the soundtracks of the top-rating Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Teen Edition 4 in ABS-CBN, has been topping the charts of most radio stations nationwide as well as in the Pinoy Myx Countdown. Its official music video and its reposts as well as lyrics videos have garnered over five million Youtube views so far. Likewise, it is one of the best-selling OPM songs online today according to mymusicstore.com.ph.

Meanwhile, Vicor Music’s Princess Velasco is one of the most brilliant acoustic artists today. With gold record albums under her name, she is a regular member of the group “Sessionistas” in the Sunday variety show ASAP in ABS-CBN.

Filipino fans are encouraged to support these three emerging, acclaimed Filipino artists as they showcase OPM to Asia and the world, in a concert that celebrates the Filipinos’ fervor for freedom and Filipino musical artistry.

9/11 TAKES CENTER STAGE IN CSI: NY SEASON 8

Tribute episode reveals the old Mac Taylor

Brace yourself for an emotionally powerful premiere episode this May when CSI: NY Season 8 returns to AXN every Wednesday 10PM starting May 16. The premiere will touch on a global catastrophe close to the hearts of viewers and especially so for Detective Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) – the 9/11 attacks which took place in New York in 2001.

For the first time in eight years, fans will get to see Mac’s wife, Claire, (Jaime Ray Newman/ General Hospital, Eastwick) appear in the series through flashbacks in the Season 8 premiere, which honours the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Mac lost Claire on that fateful day as the planes crashed into the Twin Towers where she worked and her body was never found again. With Mac considering retirement in last season’s finale, the tragedy has prompted him to leave the crime lab for the DNA lab, where he pitches in to identify the remains of 9/11 victims. He also sets up a memorial that honours the first responders that were killed - the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance.

We’re taking all of our characters back to that day,” executive producer Pam Veasy explained. “You will get to see them together. You see why Claire loved Mac, and why Mac loved her.” Indeed, the premiere episode brings us back to a very different Mac Taylor, from a hardened detective who has seen the world; to a man who had much more joy and hope, a man who was in love. Viewers get a glimpse into where the sentimental Mac came from, the one who could not bear to get rid of a beach ball his late wife had blown up, simply because ‘her breath is still in there’.

There is an interesting crossover between reel and real in this tribute episode, as Gary Sinise (a recipient of the Presidential Citizen’s Medal who has been involved in several 9/11 charities) had a personal involvement in setting up the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance. His band, Lieutenant Dan Band, raised money to complete the memorial back in 2006.  Sinise, like millions of people all over the world, had his life changed by the tragedy in a profound way.

In the aftermath of the attacks, Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo) and Don Flack (Eddie Cahill) meet for the first time amidst the rubble, while Jo Danville (Sela Ward) shows her perspective from the FBI office in Washington D.C.

Beyond the premiere, Jo will have to face demons from her past in Washington. A former crime lab agent Frank (Michael Weston, House) reappears in her life again, following their fallout over the rape case of a US senator’s daughter. This was Jo’s last case before she moved to New York, and Frank’s mistake in processing the evidence resulted in the serial rapist going scot-free.

Danny and Lindsay (Anna Belknap) also face new trials in their relationship as Danny’s promotion to Sergeant puts him back on the streets, as well as some extra distance between them. And who knows, Mac might be ready to love once again, for it is New York, the land of new seasons and new beginnings…

SINGER-COMPOSER MYRUS RELEASES ALL-ORIGINAL ALBUM TITLED “WANTED”

MYRUS, the sentimental prince of OPM, has finally released his most anticipated second album, titled “Wanted”, under Pusong Lito this May.

Presented by McJIM Leather, “Wanted” marks the next wave of Myrus’ career as a musical auteur—a brilliant composer, music producer, vocal arranger, and singer rolled into one.

The album is composed of five all-original tracks penned by Myrus himself including his monster radio and Youtube hit single “Pusong Lito” and pop ballads “Sige Na Nga,” “Mahal Kita,” “Ano’ng Kailangan Kong Gawin” and “Sana’y Malaman Mo.”

His collaboration with acoustic artist Princess Velasco for the song classic song “Kanlungan” popularized by Noel Cabangon, which was originally released in the “Tunog Natin: Song From Home” compilation album, is included as a bonus track.

“Pusong Lito” is gaining a huge following online; it topped the charts of many radio stations in Greater Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Lucena, Cagayan de Oro, Baguio, Urdaneta, Dagupan, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Cotabato. The song’s rise to popularity was aided by its initial release in over 450 Mang Inasal stores, as part of the Mang Inasal Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Campaign.

“’Wanted’ is the album that embodies who I am as an artist. I am excited to share my music to Original Pilipino Music lovers who are looking for new but distinctly Filipino sound,” he says.

“Wanted” reflects Myrus maturity as a singer and composer. It showcases his superb vocal ability—undeniably one of the most talented today—and his capacity to seamlessly marry contemporary musical elements with traditional OPM aesthetics.

Myrus first stepped into the spotlight in 2008 when he released his debut album titled “Love Cycle” under Sony Music. That album, which featured his revival of Claire dela Fuente’s classic jukebox song “Sayang”, was awarded Gold Record status and received the ASAP 24K Award in 2009.

He likewise gained critical acclaim and nominations in the prestigious Awit Awards and the First Philippine Radio Music Awards for the album.
